ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST
(Patterson C4)

Department

Rössing Uranium Mine is committed to world class performance in Sustainable Development and Environmental Management. The Sustainable Development and Environmental Management Department is charged with leading Sustainable Development and Environmental Management excellence and performance at Rössing.

Position

This position requires a highly competent and committed individual who in his/her capacity is
appointed based on his/her specialist expertise in order to ensure that the Department will be successful in achieving a high standard of HSE performance.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensuring Environmental related Risks are Identified and Managed
  • Implementing Environmental systems and ensuring appropriate procedures and practices
    are in place
  • Rigorously analysing results and identifying improvements opportunities and emerging
    issues
  • Effectively communicating and reporting performance to both internal and external
    stakeholders
  • Ensuring compliance to relevant legal requirements
  • Conducting environmental audits
  • Managing Environmental Projects
  • Providing Environmental Training
  • Managing Human and Financial Resources

Minimum Requirements:

  • A post graduate degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Management
  • A minimum of three year’s working experience within a mining environment
  • Certificate in ISO 14001 auditor training
  • Sound application in Environmental auditing
  • Computer literacy, preferably in MS Word, Access and Excel;
  • Valid code 08 (BE) drivers license.
  • Experience in air quality management and GIS application will be an added advantage

 

 

The incumbent will be expected to have the following competencies:

  • Influencing internal and external stakeholders to achieve optimal Environmental outcomes
  • Applying an appropriate level of technical knowledge in the management of Environmental
    risks
  • Developing and delivering relevant Environmental messages to internal and external
    audiences
  • Adding value by integrating Environmental Management with the business context and
    process
  • Taking responsibility and accountability for own behaviour, performance and development
